Tobermory Hebridean Gin (700ml)
At the asking price, this is miles ahead of mass-produced competitors like Vickers or Gordons. Stock up!
Made at the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, better known for their single malt whiskies. A sixty litre, 1950s era still named 'Wee Betty' is employed for gin, though interestingly, a splash of new make malt spirit from the whisky stills is added for extra body. 'The Hebridean' is actually one of three gins currently produced by Tobermory and is clearly designed as a crowd pleaser. Kicking off with understated aromatics of piney juniper, white pepper, menthol and hints of elderflower, the palate is medium bodied, sleek and pure on entry leading into a well integrated, creamy, juniper, citrus peel and pepper-laced delivery, rounded off with a pleasing cool mint tang. Arguably not quite complex or powerful enough to justify a place in Martinis, but you could happily sip away at leisure or make dangerously drinkable G&Ts. Key botanicals include heather and Hebridean tea, as well as juniper, elderflower and sweet orange peel. Voted Best Scottish Classic Gin at the World Gin Awards 2020. 43.3% Alc.Vol.
Other reviews... Bought this on a visit to Tobermory on a recent holiday and what a treat it is to drink. It has a lovely citrus taste and is perfect if, like me, you like your gin neat and unadulterated. - Tobermory Distillery visitor review.
