Glengoyne 17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Glengoyne Distillery lies in a tranquil wooded glen on the western edge of the Campsie Fells close to Loch Lomond. The Distillery takes its name from the place, 'Glen Guin' or Glen of the Wild Geese, and sits at the foot of a small waterfall tumbling from the volcanic plug of Dungoyne Hill. The same traditional methods and ingredients - barley, water and yeast - have been used to make Scotch whisky for over 500 years, and Glengoyne is no different. However, there is one subtle difference that sets Glengoyne apart from other malt whiskies in a class of its own. Rather than using barley which has been dried from the harsh smoke of peat fires, Glengoyne distillery uses only barley that has been dried using warm air.The dried malted barley is mixed with water, and yeast is added to convert the malt sugars into alcohol. After a fermentation period of around 40 hours, the liquid is distilled to produce the spirit that will mature slowly in oak casks to become the high quality Glengoyne Single Malt.
Other reviews... A fat, fruity and malty initial aroma; after aeration the bouquet adds alluring nuances of apple crisp, sautéed butter, honey and Sherry. The palate entry is clean, grainy sweet, and slightly oaky; at midpalate the flavor deepens and adds notes of marzipan, nougat, candied apple and bacon fat. Concludes gracefully and balanced.
