Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Heady ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents fill the nostrils with notions of vanillin oak, scorched earth and peppered meats also chiming in. Rich and seductive the palate is flooded with blackberry, liquorice and plum fruits with some ripe blueberry, vanillin cedar, earth and pepper elements lying underneath. Quite opulent in its feel yet also fresh and structured with a sturdy matrix of fine grained tannins providing the framework. Excellent power finishing long and lush yet also refined.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
Alc. 14%

Other Reviews…..
An assemblage of the best blocks from the Dalwhinnie original vineyard. Hand picked, vinified separately with some batches having 25% whole bunches included in ferment. Matured 20 months in French oak (30% new), followed by barrel selection and blending. Strikes a generous pose and colour. There's some pretty smart and attractive oak that is a big part of this wine's appeal. It contributes added gravitas, with wide-ranging influences from prominent spice to a toasty, smoky, mocha overlay. The ripe blackberry, plum, aniseed fruit loves it. Mouth-coating and long. Drink by 2030.
