Other reviews....
The 2010 Barbaresco Pajé is the most complete of Luca Roagna's 2010 Barbarescos today. A host of dark cherry, plum, leather, savory herbs, tobacco and menthol all open up in the glass, enshrouded by the balsamic notes that are so typical of this site. The tannins are firm and incisive, yet there is a density and pure vibrancy in the fruit that balances things out. All the elements are in the right place. The straight Pajé is a bit more lifted and delicate than the Vecchie Viti.

From the Paje vineyard and vines aged between 20 and 50 years old. Roagna should be firmly on the radars of nebbiolo lovers. Natural ferment in large wooden vats before being laid to rest for five years in used oak barrels. Right in the zone for those seeking minimal oak impact and maximised fruit/place in bottle. Highly prized wines.
This should be racing into cellars of Barbaresco fanciers. Grunty wine of spice, elemental earth nature and structure. Smells of dried rose petal, undergrowth, anise, tar, black cherry. The palate is inky, firm, tight with tannin and almost puckering-succulent with clean, squeaky rivulets of acidity that shape and cool the wine. Drives with intensity and power across the palate, dark and brooding, savoury with briar and garam masala spice character. Finishes very, very long, fine, gravelly and firm. Glory be.
