Semi translucent red colour with a light rusty red tinged hue. Fragrant spicy red cherry, rhubarb and dried herb aromas are trailed by some forest floor and hints of stalky cedar. Highly savoury the palate is littered with red cherry, rhubarb and wild strawberry fruits with notions of forest floor, dried herbs and spicy cedar adding complexity to the back half. Amply powered with silky tannins and a supple mouth feel it finishes fresh, long and elegant.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews….
A new name, not a new wine. The Eocene High Density Pinot Noir is now Old Cherry Orchard (the Eocene label continues but without High Density). So to recap, this is 10,000 vines/ha, all Abel clone, 10% whole bunches, fermented wild in concrete and 31 days on skins then aged in French oak, 20% new. A deceptive wine. as its light ruby hue and delicate aromas bely the power it holds and the definition of the savoury yet raw-silk-like tannins. Sweet red cherries, tart rhubarb, spices befitting a souk and acidity tightly holding everything in place. Drink by 2035.
