1984 Seppelt Eden Valley Maturation Release Riesling
Wine maker Ian McKenzie set out to make the definitive Riesling in 1984 and sourced the best fruit he could find at the time, which was from Eden Valley. The grapes were picked at an alcohol level of 10.5% which is very low, and the wine must have been extremely acidic in its youth. Today, its 16 years old and still has lots of youthful appearance and vigour.
Brilliant straw colour with green tinge and quite remarkable for its age. Superb, toasted honey 'kero' nose, showing excellent bottle developed character, but by no means at its peak. Aroma of citrus, lemon is still present and re emerges on the palate to provide a strong flavour component. Mouthfilling flavours with excellent marriage of Riesling freshness and bottle age. Clean crisp acid finish with very long aftertaste of citrus and toasted honey. A remarkable wine. Cellar 3-5 years more. This wine has been awarded 6 trophies to date.
