Young grain distillates don’t display much individuality, rather it’s more the oak that takes centre stage. But old grains are another story. Thirty years is where you often start to encounter excellence, especially on the nose. Charged from a refill hogshead yielding 223 bottles, sponge cake, tinned peaches, sugared almonds and cream are said to feature in this high ABV expression from the Laings. Only the third ever example to land on our shelves, the Girvan distillery was built in 1963 and continues to provide for the Grant’s portfolio and other blenders. 51.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
