1992 Cooper's Choice Cameronbridge 29 Year Old Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)
One of the better price / age ratios we've tasted for this distillery. One shipment only.
If you've never encountered Cameronbridge, it's the oldest grain whisky distillery in Scotland (est.1824) and remains the largest in Europe at over 130 million litres of spirit every year. Apart from producing one of only two proprietary bottled single grain Scotch whiskies available in the UK (Cameron Brig), Cameronbridge is occasionally available from independent bottlers. Wheat is sourced from the east coast of Scotland. Gin and vodka are also produced, with three Coffey stills and one Patent still currently in action. The house style is light, clean, fruity and flavourful, providing the backbone for Diageo's blends. Distilled in 1992, this edition spent just shy of thirty years in an ex-bourbon cask. Compared to the Cooper's Choice North British tasted side by side (same age and vintage) this is slightly richer and more malt-like. While the aromas remain fairly predictable for the category, they also show an enticing freshness and depth that includes hints of citrus peel and roasted nuts. The palate takes off with a medium-dry, full bodied 'malty' middle rounded out by notes of balsa wood, vanilla and pepper-cinnamon warmth. Light oils enter alongside caramel chocolate, but it's never overly sweet; tingling spices and oak continue to develop through the aftertaste. Solid buying at this price. 240 bottles. 51% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
