1993 Yalumba Reserve Barossa Valley Shiraz
1993 was not an easy Vintage due to excessive rain during the growing season. In years like 1993 meticulous viticultural practice, canopy management and low yields are critical if optimum ripeness is to be achieved. The wine was coopered in French oak, air dried for 5 years, 30% of which was new, the balance 1 and 2 year old French oak. This is a tight wine and reflects the cool vintage within its higher than expected acid levels. Opaque brick red colour. The nose displays a hint of perfumed developed Shiraz aroma with toasted oak, plum and chocolate being dominant. The palate again lacks the voluptuousness of Classis Barossa, however, there emerge flavours of leather, stewed fruit and spice. Fine grained firmish tannins followed by plum, spice aftertaste. Cellar 3-5 years.
