1994 Hugh Hamilton Shiraz
We've got to admit we're not fans of 'Breast beating' backlabels, or such vague descriptors that you have to go down a'Sussex lane and smell the sheep droppings' to work out what ismeant - and least of all we dislike the huge ego's of somewinemakers - particularly when it's not substantiated in theglass. So when one casts one eye on the back label of this wine Hugh'sego pronounces " Take one look at this 100% McLaren Vale Shirazand the message is very clear. You have in your hand a rich andpowerful red wine", our defence systems are on full alert.....Magnificent dense crimson mauve colour - superb nose! Blackberryconcentrate with spicy vanilla and peppery overtones - surprise- no sign of jaminess in spite of 15% Alcohol Volume. The palatelives up to the expectations of the nose and more. Theconcentrated blackberry flavours dominate the palate - the mouthis filled with an abundance of delicious ripe berry flavours andstrong inky, peppery flavours in the background. Fine tanninstructure - excellent balance and long spiced blackberryaftertaste - " a rich and powerful wine" indeed! Cellar 10years. \Z
