Bright straw colour. The nose is quite restrained, with melon and fig aromas supported by subtle spicy Vosges oak. The palate is much less concentrated than expected - light by comparison with previous vintages with melon, fig and grapefruit flavours enhanced by cashew and almonds. The acidity is relatively soft - good balance but without persistence.

TO BE RE TASTED!

RETASTED 15/11/1997

Petaluma Chardonnay's develop well with some bottle age and this wine should follow the pattern, however, it's not one of the superstars lacking some of the depth of flavour, which is a characteristic of Petaluma wines. Bright straw colour. Complex aroma of toasted oak, cashews, spice with pronounced barrel ferment overtones. The palate displays ripe peach flavours with cashews and toasty oak in the background extended by overtones of melon and grapefruit - however it lacks concentration. The acid levels are fine with long grapefruit melon aftertaste. Cellar 3 - 5 years.
