1997 Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular Single Cask Royal Lochnagar 17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

We're very pleased to add a first ever indie bottling of Royal Lochnagar to our collection. All the more interesting because it's bottled at high proof and non chill filtered. This Douglas Laing edition is also considerably older than the standard issue Lochnagar. One refill hogshead has yielded 746 bottles of which we have only a handful to sell. The distillery house style is typically sweet, honeyed, malt-forward and sponge-cake like. The bottlers say to expect aromas and flavours of Highland heather, thick vanilla and ripe fruits.

Completely renewed in 1967, Royal Lochnagar today preserves its traditional, iconic character with an approach to whisky manufacture that is thoroughly hands-on and artisanal. Fermentation times are long, ensuring that every last morsel of character is extracted from the mash, and short, stubby stills maximise the broad flavour spectrum. The distillery uses a mix of third-fill Sherry butts and third-fill American Oak hogsheads. The result is one of the fruitiest, richest Single Malts on the market. Traditionally nearly all the malt production from Lochnager was used in the famous VAT 69 blend. Today the majority is bottled as single malt.
