Tahbilk and Mitchelton have for many years produced excellent examples of this variety, but stylistically they could not be more different. The Hallmark of the Mitchelton wine has always been its heavy use of oak, although more restrained these days than it was in the past. This wine has been barrel fermented and kept on yeast lees for 10 months. Complexity has been further gained by the inclusion of some Rousanne. Bright, deep straw colour. Impressive nose, with aroma of orange blossom, honeysuckle, spice, vanilla and yeast lees. Mouthfilling palate, with flavours reminiscent of Viognier, nut and citrus flavours dominant. Creamy texture, with the oak making its mark. Good weight and balance, followed by a clean acid finish and aftertaste of yeast lees, spice and oak.
