1999 Water Wheel Cabernet Sauvignon
Water Wheel lost its cherry trees this year - the winter rains and poor drainage on the cherry block caused the roots to drown. It comes as a bit of a personal blow, because we always enjoyed the box of cherries that turned up with the Cabernet Sauvignon delivery, none the less, the Cabernet is here, and it is yet another outstanding result for Peter Cummings. Opaque black crimson colour - as solid as one can imagine. The nose displays superb lifted Cabernet fruit aroma. Pungent head filling notes of blackcurrant, liquorice, spice and vanilla. The palate is totally mouthfilling - a concentrate of blackcurrant, spice, chocolate and liquorice - the fruit flavours are very much to the fore front, and supported by quite firm tannins, which are the hallmark of Cabernet - dry, yet inspite of thier firmness very necessary to support the huge ripe fruit flavours. Very long aftertaste of plum, spice, liquorice and blackcurrant. Cellar 5-8 years. VERY LIMITED STOCKS.
