2001 She-Oak Hill Heathcote Shiraz
GORDON LECKIE planted 3000 Shiraz vines on the She Oak property in 1975. Leckie is one of the early pioneers of the Heathcote district, together with ALBINO ZUBER, LEONARD FRENCH, DR. JIM MUNRO and LEIGH HUNT. The vineyard is unirrigated with the vines being cane pruned and mulched in order to conserve water. The vines root systems are very well established and consistently produce high quality fruit which is then transported to Hanging Rock where the wine is made.
TASTING NOTE: An impressive Heathcote Shiraz. The wine was matured for 21 months in small oak barrels. Very deep black crimson colour, almost opaque. The nose displays aroma of blackberry, vanilla, spice and liquorice. The palate has the weight that one expects from Heathcote with plenty of black pepper and blackberry flavour evident. Fine dry tannins followed by very long spicy black cherry, blackberry and black pepper aftertaste.
