2002 Hollick Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
The Hollick Coonawarra Vineyard is located on one of the original John Riddoch selections, and was first planted to Cabernet in 1975. The first Commercial release of Hollick was in 1983, and two years later their wine was awarded the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy. Today 50 Ha of vines are planted in Coonawarra with a second vineyard established at Wrattonbully. The winery Restaurant "Upstairs at Hollick" has been awarded many Restaurant industry accolades and is worth patronizing if you're visiting the district.
An impressive inaugural release, made from Cabernet grown at Hollick's Neilson's Block and Wilgha Vineyards in Coonawarra. Totally opaque black purple colour with deep purple hue. Superb nose of violets, blackcurrant and cedar, showing strong Cabernet aroma. The palate flavours are generous with ripe blackcurrant flavours showing a 'joosiness' that is almost Shiraz like. Fine grained tannins, well balanced followed by a very long aftertaste of mocha, blackcurrant and cassis with fine dry tannins persisting.
