2002 Jacob's Creek Centenary Hill Shiraz
A magnificent example of Barossa Shiraz and a welcome return to top form after a couple of good, but less impressive releases than the outstanding 1995 & 1996 wines.
The 2002 vintage was outstanding in the Barossa with cool ripening conditions allowing optimal flavour development. Three separate blocks were identified as being exceptional parcels suitable for inclusion in the Centenary Hill. Each block was fermented separately and matured in American oak for 23 months. Vigorous barrel selection was then undertaken by the winemakers with any barrels not up to the required standard left out of the final blend. The wine then received a further 32 months bottle age before being released.
Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Medium body. Superb, perfumed nose of violets, spice and cedar, delivering a wonderful aromatic experience. The palate is pure drinking pleasure. Mouthfilling flavours of vanilla, cedar, plum and prune surrounded by velvet smooth tannins. Perfect palate harmony. Very long aftertaste of vanilla, cedar, spice and chocolate.
