2003 Paringa Estate PE Shiraz
First tasted, June 2004:
LINDSAY MCCALL produces a very fine, elegant Shiraz that has all the attributes of a cool climate red. The principle differences between cool climate and relatively warm climate Shiraz is the nature of the pepper characteristic. White pepper being more evident in cooler climate Shiraz wines, rather than black pepper.
An elegant, yet powerful cool climate Shiraz. Very deep crimson mauve colour with deep mauve hue. Aroma of spice, plum, stewed fruit, violets, blackberry and cedar. The palate is quite mouthfilling, with the sort of refinement one expects from Geelong and Mornington Peninsula Shiraz. Flavours of white pepper, plum and spice are supported by a very spicy back palate. Perfect tannin balance. Aftertaste of violet infusions, plum, spice and new leather.
