2007 Lady of the Glen Auchentoshan Single Cask #4200 14 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Famous for being distilled three times instead of the usual two (meaning it comes off the final still at a super high 162 proof), for a long time Auchentoshan was dismissed as making rather simplistic whiskies. In the last few decades, owners Beam Suntory have invested heavily in re-vamping the brand with a slew great new additions. The house style is sometimes described as green, herbal or lemony. Short fermentation provides a cereal note which acts as a grounding flavour during maturation as well as balancing high-toned citrus. All of those characteristics are captured here. The bristling barley bouquet comes with a twist of citrus, while the slightly grassy palate is momentarily juicy and loaded with feisty spices at the finish, and there are traces of bitter lemon amongst the cereals. All up it's an inviting and zesty Auchentoshan as you will find, demonstrating that some of the most impressive bottlings still come from independents. 54.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 235 bottles.  

Notes from the bottlers... Patiently matured in a traditional refill hogshead for 14 years and 11 months for mellowness and vanilla notes. The tasting revealed, honeydew melon, drizzly honey and lemon wafer.
