More and more young to middle-aged Caol Ilas are entering the market. Flavour-wise, they can be a little monotonous, even when they’re above average. That said, you can occasionally taste a single cask that stands out from the pack. In our experience they generally succeed when matured in x-Port or red wine casks - in this case, it's first-fill ruby port. Anticipate peat reek plus lots of Summer pudding and ripe red berry character. From an outturn of 297 bottles. 53.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the bottlers... NOSE: Eton mess (strawberries and meringue to the fore). Hint of smoke in the background. PALATE: Powerful; sweet smoke with rich fruit (like a jam). Again meringue. FINISH: A melange of fruit and sweet smoke lingers in the aftertaste.
