2008 Claxton's Warehouse No.1 Ledaig 14 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

The older of two Ledaigs in Claxton's 2022 collection comes matured in a Merlot Barrique (the other was Oloroso). The two are almost chalk and cheese, this expression being marginally darker in colour, softer and more integrated on the nose with gentle smoke and nutty malt leading into a round and fluffy mid-palate with rich dark chocolate and chimney soot, as well as hints of dried cranberries and granita biscuits. The finish turns bittersweet - think fruity dark chocolate; Lingering earthy peat and pepper warmth but keeps both peat and alcohol on a leash. Hard to believe it's near 60%. 263 bottles at 57.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
