Selling for up to $110.00 ex winery direct, we have this Nicks Secret Museum release at close to current release pricing making it a great value bottle aged drinking proposition for the festive season. Maturation took place in new (40%) and second use French barriques for 18 months.
Primed for drinking now, this beautifully aged central Victorian Shiraz combines plush black fruit with emerging tertiary elements.
Deep pitch black heart with a dark red to brick red tinged hue. Intense aromas of liquorice and dark plum intermix with toasty vanillin oak, scorched earth, hints of leather and blackpepper. Rich, lush blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits flood the full bodied palate with notions of scorched earth, vanillin cedar, leather and peppered meat elements extending across the back half. Amply powered it possesses a silky mid palate feel along with velvety yet underlyingly sturdy tannins. The finish long and polished.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

Other Reviews…..
A mix of open fermenters, vats and tanks, 30% macerated for 2 weeks, 70% pressed after 10-14 days on skins, matured in French barriques (35% new) for 18 months. Has a full tank of fuel, still showing little sign of the fruit losing its grip. Drink by 2028. (Tasted January 2019)

What a fabulous wine this is! Age has delivered a glorious Shiraz. Given its age and quality, I highly recommend gifting this to someone deserving. I was sent this sample as well as the 2018 release. To have them side by side was an excellent experience. You could see where the 2018 is headed - the DNA clear. Black fruits are still prominent, its delivery is sleek and just had me saying wow. Polished, there is still a sense of youth about its presence if you can you believe it. But time has shone the spotlight on its savoury highlights with a chorus of cloves, char, tar, leather touches, sooty char all singing in unison. A wine that glides through the mouth, delicate sheets of soft and fine tannins seemingly never end. Impressive and then some. Savour this now for the next five years. (Tasted October 2021)

Deep brick-red colour with a distinct tawny rim. The bouquet shows appropriate aged development with dry earth and terracotta aromas, detailed with a nice note of roasted-meats and a whiff of violets, while the palate is very dry, savoury and the tannins are quite firm, adding to the dryness of the finish. There's great depth of flavour in the palate. It's a wine that gives more, the more you taste it. A superb wine, just starting to drink really well at 13 years and with ages ahead of it.
