An old reliable in the smokey Highland category, only this one's a bit of a sleeper. At first taste, oddly light for a cask strength Ardmore, as if the octave has masked the usually effusive malt resulting in a whisky that's kind of smokey and kind of sherried, but ends up sitting on the fence. The effortless delivery and sheer drinkability make amends. Salt'n'pepper cracker biscuits adds a nice touch to the oily finish, too. Ideal pre-dinner dram.
