2010 John Glaetzer John's Blend No. 16 Margaretes Shiraz
Matured for 25 months in new American oak hogsheads. Impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Intense aromas of liquorice, blackberry liqueur, dark chocolate and vanillin oak spring from the glass over some mocha and a faint hint of spearmint. Rich, lush flavours of dark chocolate, liquorice and vanillin oak swamp the palate followed by mocha and a touch of spicy leather. The satin like tannins only enhance the wines cashmere like texture. Long aftertaste of liquorice, dark plum, dark chocolate, spicy vanillin oak, mocha and leather. Has a fair dose of American oak which won’t be to everyone’s liking.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Alc 14.5%
Other Reviews….
If you insist on a cork, a full-bodied dry red is going to suffer least; the colour is good, and the standard completion of the primary fermentation in 100% new oak, followed by mlf in that oak, and a further 25 months' maturation is some barrels has taken full advantage of the vintage. Well-priced, and in pure Glaetzer 'no wood, no good' style.
