2010 Penley Estate Phoenix Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

A Striking Coonawarra Value from the Outstanding 2010 Vintage.
The Phoenix name recognises the first winemaking company purchased by Douglas Austral Tolley , purchased in 1888. This company began in 1858, as “The Phoenix Winemaking and Distilling Company”, in Stepney, South Australia. In 1888 this was changed to “Tolley Scott Tolley” (T.S.T.) and remained with the family till 1960. D.A Tolley’s great grandson, Kym Tolley, has continued the unbroken family winemaking tradition, establishing Penley Estate in 1988. Fantastic bang for your buck.
Matured for 15 months in French oak of which 28% was new. Totally opaque inky black red colour with deep dark red black hue. Nosing offers up an intriguing mix of black currant and dark chocolate followed by some cedary cigar box, a hint of mint and spice. Full bodied the palate packs some real punch with generous mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackcurrant, liquorice and choc mint over some cedary cigar box and spice. Very fine grained but structured tannins. Superb depth and richness with long ripe blackcurrant, subtle dark chocolate mint, cedary cigar box and spice aftertaste.

Vibrant deep crimson; a punchy and expressive cabernet bouquet with redcurrant, cassis, clove and olive on display; the palate is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and manages to create a long and even finish; designed for early consumption, but will stand the test of time in the medium term. Drink by 2020.
