2011 Lady of the Glen Longmorn Single Cask #974 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Great to see Longmorn in an Indie line up and one that hasn't been interfered with by any wood finishings. If it seems like some green fruit notes are holding back the bouquet, the palate offers much more in the way of dried coconut, vanilla fudge and good old Longmorn honeyed cereal character, backed up by an active Bourbon cask which adds a light Kentucky edge. That's topped off by a little lemon zest. The balance is excellent for a cask-strength tenner, and it handles plenty of water without losing too much definition. Erratic supply combined with Pernod Ricard's crazy price tag of well over $200 for the distillery's flagship makes this a value buy. 55.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 246 bottles. First fill Bourbon cask matured.
Notes from the bottlers... Located just outside Elgin and noted for its use in premium blends, the distillate is recognised as floral and fruity with a medium body. Matured in a first fill bourbon barrel for notes of vanilla and coconut. The tasting revealed dried pineapple, lemon shortbread and fudge.
