2012 Lady of the Glen Glenturret (Ruadh Maor) Single Cask #303 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

This is a mainland peated spirit that's merged with an x-Amarone wine barrique. Rather than being burly and brooding like an Islay, the peat is nuanced by rich fruit'n'nut chocolate and dried red berry notes. Ample spices ramp up the palate in a full-bodied, full-throttle attack that fuses lanolin and oily, sweet peat reek, slowly drying with suggestions of chocolate and berry sponge cake. Bold enough to be undiminished by water, completionists can confidently add this to a shortlist of peated malts that will give Islays a run for their money. 61.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 315 bottles.

Notes from the bottlers... Ruadh Maor is the peated distillate produced at Glenturret distillery. The distillate has a light fruity character with soft peated notes. Matured in a HHD then finished in a first fill Veneta Botti ex-amarone barrique for 2 years. The tasting revealed, salted pretzel, smoked meat and red fruits.
