2012 Nicks Secret Margaret River AP Cabernet Merlot Museum Release
This Nicks Secret offering is predominantly sourced from the Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River with a small percentage also coming from the Walcliffe sub region. Maturation took place in a mix of new, second and third use French oak barrels for a period of 12 months.
Priced at less than the current vintage this delivers ridiculous value for an aged Margaret River Cabernet blend. Winner of 4 trophies and 6 gold medals.
Excellent colour showing virtually no indication of its age. Midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced blackcurrant and mulberry tinged aromas fill the nostrils complimented by hints of cigar box, black olive, earth and spicy bay leaf. Medium to full bodied, the palate combines terrific depth of fruit with a gorgeously fleshed mouth feel. Rich blackcurrant and liquorice fruit overlaying a nuanced back drop of pencilly vanillin cedar, spicy tobacco, scorched earth and infusions of bay leaf. Superb power and balance with what was a sturdy tannin structure earlier in it’s life, now seamlessly integrated with the fruit. Concludes long, generously endowed and spicy.
Superb drinking over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 14.5%
