Caol Ila matured in a PX octave makes for a style not unlike Lagavulin's excellent Distiller's Edition, only this is less about understated elegance - more about decadent texture and oomph. Sweet sherry nudges in front, softening the peat on both the nose and palate. The barley is coated in a thick layer of liquid fruit cake. The finish almost comes to a sticky end but there's enough coastal freshness to balance. Think drunken fruit cake, Islay style. 50.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 65 bottles only.
