2013 d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz

Spectacular colour saturation displaying an impenetrable inky black core with an equally deep dark purple black hue. Elevated aromas of black cherries, liquorice and blackberries emerge from the glass underscored by smoky cedar, black olive and a touch of meatiness with spicy dried herb end notes. Rich, densely textured and muscular in its mouthfeel, flavours of blackberries, liquorice and black cherries fill the palate all but tightly compacted. Underpinning this is nuances of smoky vanillin cedar, some meatiness and spicy pepper. A rigid, grippy tannin structure and vibrant acidity dries out the finish and holds the brooding fruit in check. Long blackberry, liquorice, smoky vanillin oak, subtle meatiness and spicy pepper aftertaste. Rich and powerful yet tight and unyielding this Dead Arm is going to require some patience.
