2013 Yalumba The Menzies Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
Yalumba’s Menzies takes its name from Sir Robert Menzies, former Australian Prime Minister and red wine enthusiast. Maturation took place in a combination of 34% new French hogsheads & barriques, 2% new Hungarian hogsheads, with the balance in 1 year and older American, French & Hungarian hogsheads & barriques for a period of 18 months.
A rich, beautifully structured Coonawarra Cabernet that’s all class.
Excellent colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. A fragrant bouquet of blackcurrant and mulberry fruit infused with hints of bay leaf overlaps some cedary tobacco notes and spice. Medium to full bodied with superb power and richness the palate is a beautifully poised balancing act between the blackcurrant and mulberry fruit, and its graceful structure. Subtle infusions of bay leaf, cedary tobacco characters, faint black olives and spice are also apparent. Perfectly integrated fine grained tannins provide the framework. Concludes long and rich with an aftertaste of ripe blackcurrants, mulberries, faint bay leaf, cedary tobacco characters and subtle spicy black olives.
Cellar 6-8 years.
