More sherry from Claxton's. This time it's Tomintoul in 'contemporary guise', so less effusive than a 'sherry bomb'. The expected flavours are there: Moist fruit cake, creamy malt, coffee, new leather and hints of cigar box, but what impresses most is the integration at just eight years of age. Excellent depth too, and the chewy middle is a delight, not to mention the distillery's characteristic soft finish. An uncomplicated malt that delivers what the label says. 56.7% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Oloroso sherry matured. 357 bottles.

Notes from the bottlers... NOSE: Rum & raisin fudge. Chocolate raisins. Coffee beans. PALATE: Sweet and fruity at first. Lots of milk chocolate and rich cocoa flavours. FINISH: Sweet, sherried finish. Rich and spicy in the aftertaste.
