2014 Nicks Secret Pyrenees Cabernet
Black as night at its heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Driving the nose with more than ample intensity are aromas of blackcurrant which are complexed by notions of ripe mulberry, hints of liquorice, vanillin cedar, earthy black olive, dried herb and spicy tobacco notes. Bottle age has mellowed the medium bodied palate and bestowed it with a refined feel, blackcurrant and ripe mulberry fruits combining with cedary tobacco, earth, black olive, dried herb and spice elements. The tannin structure is smooth and composed yet there’s an underlying sturdiness to it. Concludes long, elegant and savoury. A beautifully aged Cabernet that has taken on a Bordeaux like sophistication.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews…..
Deep, bright purple-crimson; as ever, a distinguished cabernet, perfectly groomed and perfectly balanced; the cassis fruit has a sprig of bay leaf, the tannins are firm but fine, and the French oak is both balanced and integrated. Drink by 2034.
