Totally opaque dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Perfumed like aromas of dark plum and liquorice laced with clove and hints of violets evolve from the glass followed by smoky vanillin cedar, earth and pepper. Rich and plush in the mouth the palate is decorated with a savoury flavour profile of ripe dark plums, liquorice and dark cherries subtlety infused with elements of clove. Spicy vanillin cedar, fennel, light earth and pepper characters are also present. Beautifully interwoven velvet like tannins. Concludes with excellent power and a long aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Made from the St Ethel clone, a descendant of the mid-nineteenth century plantings in the Grampians, and from what Leigh Clarnette classifies as one of the greatest vintages in the region. It is indeed a lovely wine, its fruit intensity building as the flavours of red/dark cherries unroll along the medium-bodied palate. It has exceptional mouthfeel from its gentle extraction and moderate alcohol. Drink by 2036.
