2016 Conde Valdemar Reserva
For 124 years, five generations of the Bujanda family have produced some of the finest wines from Rioja. It was Joaquín Martínez Bujanda who started the company with 10 hectares of vines in Rioja Alavasa and over the years the estate has expanded to include vineyards across the region.
A blend of 87% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 3% Graciano matured in a combination of American oak (65%) and French oak (35%) barrels for a period of 22 months.
Pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense ripe dark plum, liquorice and mocha aromas engulf the olfactory senses followed by vanillin oak, earth and spicy leather notes. Rich and opulently textured, the weighty palate is well endowed with dark plum, mocha and liquorice flavours which meld an earthy vanillin oak, leather and spice back drop. Chewy tannins with a long earthy mocha conclusion.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Other Reviews…..
This has aromas of raspberry compote, spiced cherries, nutmeg, figs, cinnamon and chai. Polished, structured and deliciously spiced, with a full body, firm tannins and chewy finish. Drink or hold.
