2016 Georges Remy Le Mont de Tauxieres Champagne

Georges Remy is a young, third generation vigneron crafting exciting Champagnes from his base in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy. While his formative years following wine study were spent in Bordeaux, upon returning to his home and making some notable Bouzy Rouge (still red wine), Georges now produces a range of Champagnes from vineyards predominantly located in Bouzy, with a small part in Tauxieres. The dark clay soils here are rich in silica and gypsum, and produces wines with enormous power and complexity. Their vineyards have been certified organic since 2015, and while not prescriptive, Georges does use herbal treatments as well as some biodynamic preparations to minimize the use of sulphites following vinification. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in barrel and after aging on its lees bottling takes place following the lunar cycles.

Le Mont de Tauxieres is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay from this single vineyard based in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy. Disgorged in April 2022 with no dosage, there are a scant 1500 bottles available from the 2016 vintage.
