2016 Seppeltsfield Barossa Shiraz

Matured in French oak this Shiraz displays excellent colour with a black as night core and a deep dark red black tinged hue. Blackberry, plum and liquorice aromas meld into some smoky vanillin cedar and black pepper. Medium bodied with good richness to the blackberry, plum and liquorice fruits which sit over a backdrop of smoky vanillin cedar and some earth. Peppery finish with dry, slightly chalky tannins and bright acidity. Medium aftertaste of peppered blackberries, plums, liquorice, smoky cedar and a hint of spicy earth.

From the resurrected, famed Seppeltsfield of the Barossa Valley. While Sydney grapples between politicians and developers taking gigantic, rabid mouthfuls of old buildings, earth, homes and legacy from precious antiquity of places, the likes of Warren Randall (and the Casella family comes to mind) are a blessing for our regional areas’ storied histories. I like that the wine style is a nod in the direction of tradition too. Hearty, inviting, proudly from its place, for the future, looking into the past.
Lush red of generous sweeps of forest berries and peppery spice with cedary oak meshed well and nipping at the heels of the wine. It’s medium to full weight, soupy yet fresh, gently sweet in a way but has a chomp of friendly tannin and some savouriness underlying. A warm cuddle. Smile on the dial stuff. Aside all that it’s a beautifully realised wine, clean and fresh, balanced, long in flavour, generous and yet not overblown. Kudos all. Drink 2018-2022
