2017 DCB Wine Chardonnay
From the excellent 2017 vintage, this was our first opportunity to taste DCB wines and we were very impressed by the results. Not only are they elegant and super delicious but they really over deliver at their price points.
Winemaker Chris Bendle’s day job is at Hoddles Creek Estate but he still finds to time to work on his own venture, DCB wine, sourcing fruit from a vineyard near Woori Yallock in the picturesque Upper Yarra. Planted to the Bernard 95 & 96 clones of Chardonnay and the MV6 clone of Pinot Noir the vines are planted on a gentle north facing slope with an age of 12 years.
An incredibly tasty Chardonnay that’s filling out nicely.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Understated in its intensity the nose builds in the glass offering up refined aromatics of white peaches partnering with dried honey and biscuity nougat notes. Traces of cashew and faint gun flint also chime in. Fuller and richer than you would expect yet not lacking anything in terms of finesse, generous flavours of ripe peach, nectarine and dried honey fill the mouth, melding into a distinct cashew background. Light biscuity nougat and spice elements are also present. Creamy textural feel, well balanced acidity and excellent depth. Long satisfying finish of white peaches, dried honey, cashew and spice.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
