2017 Errazuriz Aconcagua Alto Carmenere
Vina Errazuriz, owner of the Caliterra and Arboleda brands also produces wine under its own label. President of the group is the world renown Eduardo Chadwick who also responsible for Chile’s most famous label Sena. The fruit for this wine is sourced from a site located 600 metres above sea level, planted on the second ancient alluvial terrace of the Aconcagua River, where the deep gravel soil has a clay-loam texture. Aging takes place in oak barrels for a period of 12 months.
Rich, savoury and elegant this has all of the attributes of classic Chilean Carmenere.
Superb depth of colour displaying an inky black core with a very deep bright dark red black tinged hue. Intense blackcurrant aromas infused with tobacco and black olives are followed by some cigar box, a hint of liquorice and spicy dried herb notes. Medium bodied, the palate possesses a degree of elegance, terrific richness and is quite fleshy and supple in its mouthfeel. Flooding the mouth is ripe blackcurrant fruit subtlety infused with tobacco over a back drop of light cigar box, dried herbs and spice. Perfectly integrated, fine grained tannins, outstanding depth and a long savoury finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews….
Complex aromas of rose stem, bay leaf and dark fruit. Hints of iron. A medium-bodied red with juicy tannins that are tight and focused. Flavorful and long. Nice line of tannins running through it. Drink now or hold.
