2017 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino
La Serena are a 12ha family owned estate, now it their third generation. Organically farmed, the fruit for this wine come from sites surrounded by Biondi Santi’s Il Greppo vineyard. Primarily fermented in stainless (with some in oak) this wine sees two years in oak and year in bottle before release.
Deep dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Fragrant spicy dark cherry and ripe red currant aromas are interwoven with hints of rose petals, dusty earth, tobacco, cedar, dried herbs and traces of leather. Rich red to dark currant and dark cherry fruits are supported by a firm tannin structure which imparts a muscular feel. Dried herb, earthy tobacco, subtle leather and spicy cedar elements linger through the back half. Dry, stern finish with a rustic aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
Sweet berries and black cherries with some flowers and dark earth, too. It’s full-bodied with velvety, chewy tannins that leave a slightly dry impression. But it should come around nicely with three or four years of bottle age. Try after 2024.
