A blend of 82% Shiraz, 9% Grenache and 9% Mataro matured in French oak barriques (30% new) for a period of 10 months. Very deep black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Filling the nostrils are lofty scents of black raspberries, blackberry and liquorice which intermingle with dried meats, scorched earth and peppered herbs. Medium to full bodied, juicy black cherry, black raspberry and liquorice fruits are underpinned by scorched earth, clove, meaty characters and blackpepper. Ripe chewy tannins lead into a dry finish that has some grip. Medium to long aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…
82% shiraz, 9% each of grenache and mataro vinified and matured separately before blending and bottling. Each was cold-soaked for 10 days, macerated and pressed to French barriques (30% new) for 19 months. The colour is brilliant, clear crimson, and the dominant red berry flavours are entrancing, the mouthfeel satin smooth, the length and aftertaste as fresh as a spring day. Drink by 2027.

This is a shiraz (82%), grenache (9%) and mataro. All from Frankland River.
Beautiful wine. High value too. Character plus. Peppercorn, black cherry and rushes of ripe plum. Walnut overtones. Reductive nuances. Garden herbs here, lots of garben herbs, but not in a hard or unripe way. Body and soul. A favourite red, on song again here. Drink 2019-2025+
