2017 Tahbilk Eric Stevens Purbrick Cabernet Sauvignon
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Nosing draws out red to black currant, mulberry and black olive aromas which show ample intensity. Cedary tobacco, dried herb and scorched earth notes ensue. The mid weighted palate is flooded with rich red to black currant and mulberry fruits which overlay cigar box, black olive, dried herb, earth and spice elements. Elegant and polished in its feel with seamlessly integrated tannins. Finishes long, refined and savoury.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews…..
Crushed and destemmed fruit, fermented with cultured yeast. Matured 18 months in French oak (30–40% new). Eric Stevens Purbrick, the grandfather of CEO, Alister Purbrick, created the traditions that hold the producer in good stead in the 21st Century. These culminate beautifully, artfully, in the '17 Eric Stevens Purbrick Cabernet. This is definitely about a taste of tradition, of measured oak, of ripe fruit allowed to fully express, and a sense of place in the earthy, dusty savouriness. This is no power cabernet. Aromas of the Aussie bush, sage, baked earth, light herbals and violets. A warm, inviting palate of dark chocolate and spice, finishing with firm tannins. Elegant and enticing now, but save some for later. Drink by 2034.
