2017 Thompson Estate Cabernet Merlot
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Red to black currant and mulberry aromas are intermeshed with black olive, dusty cedar, tobacco and bay leaf notes. Rich fleshy red to black currant, mulberry and black olive flavours overlay a spicy background of cedary tobacco characters and bay leaf infusions. Mid weighted it has structurally solid and well integrated tannins finishing long and refined.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews....
A superlative vintage, but what sets Thompson Estate's wines apart is their understated confidence. The fruit, a jubilant chorus of cabernet's choir, singing currant, graphite and bay leaf. Merlot provides some juicy fill and malbec (7%) and franc (6%) some aromatic high tones. The oak, older French, serves as a signpost rather than a stop sign. Drink by 2029.
