2017 Vinelea Petit Blanc
A blend of 60% Marsanne and 40% Roussanne, 2017 was warm with fairly typical picking dates, with both varieties picked in mid-March at optimal ripeness and acidity. Fermented separately and kept cool to preserve the fruit character, the wine is then transferred to old French oak barrels to mature for 10 months, racked clean once, then returned to barrel for an additional 8 months before bottling.
Bright straw colour with flecks of gold around the edges and a watery hue. Heady baked apple, ripe pear and honeycomb scents mix with some crème brulee, nougat and spice. Rich and full, creamy textured flavours of ripe pears, apricot, crème brulee and honeycomb engulf the palate with some bacon fat and spicy nougat lurking in the background. Finishes dry with a lick of fresh acidity freshening up the long seductive aftertaste.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
