2018 Balgownie Estate Bendigo Cabernet Sauvignon
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Pronounced blackcurrant, liquorice, vanillin cedar and tobacco aromas fill the nostrils with some black olive, scorched earth and dried herb notes also evident. Rich, fleshy blackcurrant fruits are intermeshed with toasty vanillin cedar, tobacco, earth and infusions of bay leaf. Firm grainy tannin structure with a long chewy finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews…..
Skin contact for average of 18 days, open-vat fermentation, 18 months' maturation in French oak barriques (30% new). Abundant red-fruit aromas with the odd darker berry in the mix in this medium-bodied, fragrant and almost-understated cabernet. A restrained leafiness, spice and licorice with dusty beets and baked earth. Nicely resolved on the palate, firm and long. Drink by 2026.
