2018 Crawford River Cabernets

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Fragrant red currant scents infused with violets blossom from the glass followed by fresh herb, earth and spicy cedar notes. Mid weighted the palate dishes up savoury red currant fruits over a back drop of earth, spicy cedar, traces of tobacco and infusions of fresh herbs. Fresh acidity and fine grained tannins with a refined red fruited aftertaste of great elegance.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

When the stars are aligned, this shines brightly as a pure expression of the variety and place. the vines planted in '77. Imbued with a coolness- ripe certainly, but refined and polished although neither additions nor new oak. The palate is seamless, elegant with finely chiselled tannins and lovely acidity driving this to a long finish. Drink by 2030.

An unnervingly good wine here, typically, and no slouch from 2018. This is seamless and pitch perfect medium weight. Cool and restrained, blue fruited, laced with sage and bay leaf herbal characters, briny with minerality and finishes cool and very long. Such poise and prettiness, finesse and deliciousness. Few cabernets scale the heights this does at the price point, and beyond even. Such a beautiful cabernet in its way. Drink 2022-2035.
