2018 Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin
Other Reviews....
Revisited from bottle, Rousseau's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a rich, demonstrative wine, bursting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with raw cocoa, orange rind, peonies and hints of cedary oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with uncommon mid-palate weight and imposing reserves of ripe fruit, it's structured around powdery tannins and succulent acids. This is carrying unusual puppy fat, yet it retains the domaine's stylistic signatures and promises to age with grace. Drink 2022-2055.

A similar if slightly fresher nose offers notes of various red berries along with newly turn earth and sauvage nuances. The medium weight flavors possess a slightly finer mouthfeel with even better vibrancy, all wrapped in a complex, long and balanced finale. This is an excellent Gevrey villages and worth checking out. Drink through 2026+.

Included with the village grapes are small amounts from 1ers crus Estournelles-St-Jacques and Clos Prieur, to be joined in 2019 by Craipillot as they have planted up their old vegetable garden there. A youthful fresh purple colour, heavenly bouquet again this light touch of sandalwood but with a long gracious cherry and light raspberry fruit.
