2018 Hentley Farm Shiraz
Named as James Halliday’s winery of the year in his 2015 Wine Companion, Hentley Farm produce a wide array of outstanding wines. The outstanding 2018 vintage experienced an extended ripening period which resulted in wines that show a perfect mix of power and elegance with vibrant colours and rich fruit. This Shiraz was sourced from 12 blocks across the Hentley Farm Estate in Seppeltsfield with the wine aged in a combination of new (10%) and old (90%) French and American oak barrels for a period of 10 months.
A powerful, deep well of luscious fruit forms the core of this Barossa beauty.
Visually inky black in colour with a deep bright dark red black tinged hue. Showing ample elevation are expressive aromatics of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum which then merge into vanillin cedar, light earth, a hint of fennel and pepper. Flooding the full bodied palate with a wave of succulence are rich blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which are underpinned by spicy vanillin cedar and earthy fennel elements. Finishes with superb depth and a burst of blackpepper. There’s a youthful, inky opulence to the texture which is supported by good freshness and fine grained tannins. Cruises into a long, deeply fruited conclusion.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews....
The usual mix of polished elegance and discrete power. The accent is on the fruit, not oak, and the balance ensures a long future. Plum and blackberry fruit, a dash of spice and licorice are on the money. Drink by 2033.
