2018 J.M. Lentini Eden Valley Syrah

An automotive design engineer by day, John Lentini spent 14 years making wine for family and friends out of a Melbourne Suburban garage before his passion lead him to the Barossa where he took a leap of fate to begin his own winemaking venture. Fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the Eden Valley sub region Keyneton with vines 20 years old. Incorporated into ferment was 10% whole bunch fruit with maturation taking place in French oak hogsheads (30% new) for a period of 18 months.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep dark red black hue. Potent black cherry, liquorice and dark plum scents infiltrate the olfactory senses and are interwoven with smoky cedar, dried meats, scorched earth and peppered herbs. Rich, sleek and powerful the palate is flooded with blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and ripe blueberry fruits which meld into spicy cedar, fennel and peppered dried herb characters on the back half. Meaty yet supple in its texture, velvety tannins carry great polish. Concludes long and refined.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
