2018 Kilchoman Port Cask Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

This is Kilchoman's second Port Cask Matured expression, and according to the distillery, "one of the most talked about releases in our thirteen-year history." It's a vatting of thirty ruby port hogsheads filled in 2014, yielding a total of 10,000 bottles. Note that this has been exclusively matured in port casks, rather than being just a finishing, so the impact of the barrels is significant. Pours a dazzling rust orange / autumn leaf red. One of the most delicate Kilchoman bouquets to date - dried red berries, some Turkish Delight, as well as rose hips, Monte-Carlo biscuits and fruit'n'nut chocolate - all infused with sweet smoke. Full bodied, but this feels graceful in the mouth. Mid palate features berry tart, dark chocolate and vanilla flavours brushed with sooty peat. Perfect balance. Concludes juicy and deliciously fresh, with cherry smoke and cherry-ripe through the aftertaste. The combination of young port and peat works beautifully. 50% Alc./Vol.
